While Beyoncé may sing about who runs the world, Queen Bey certainly proved that she rules the Grammys after breaking history by winning 32 trophies at the 65th annual awards.

The Renaissance performer converted four of her nine nominations for the 2023 ceremony into victories, making her the most successful artist for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the academy behind the Grammys.

Going into Sunday’s event, Beyoncé was level-pegging with her husband Jay-Z as the music artists held the record for most nominations in Grammys history at 80 nods apiece, but Beyonce pulled ahead of Hungarian-British composer Georg Solti, as she took four gold gramophones home.

Georg Solti previously held the record for most Grammy wins, having 30 awards to his name before he passed away at the age of 84 in 1997, and gaining his 31st and final award in 1998.

As the Break My Soul crooner stepped up to clinch the record-breaking award in the Best Dance/Electronic Music Album category, she thanked her family while saying:

“I’m trying not to be too emotional. I’m trying to just receive this night. I want to thank God for protecting me. Thank you, God. I’d like to thank my Uncle Johnny, who’s not here, but he’s here in spirit…I’d like to thank the queer community for your love and for inventing this genre...”

Beyoncé's successful evening also saw her take home the R&B song award, the traditional R&B performance and the dance/electronic recording and comes after her recent controversial performance in Dubai, when opening a new Atlantis hotel.

Female artists have certainly been breaking records at the Grammys in the last couple of years as Viola Davis made history last night by becoming an ‘EGOT’.

The title of an ‘EGOT’ is attributed to an artist who has won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony throughout their career, and in Los Angeles last night, Viola Davis joined 17 others who have been successful at the large awards ceremonies.

Viola achieved this by winning best audio book for her autobiography Finding Me.

Another female singer who has written themselves in the Grammy’s history books is Billie Eilish, who in 2020, became the second person and the first female artist to win the ‘big four’ in one night.

The Grammy big four include Album of the Year, Best New Artist, Song of the Year and Record of the Year, which for Billie was ‘Everything [she ever] Wanted’.

By Billie taking home the best album of the year in 2020, when the world was faced with the pandemic, she also broke Taylor Swift’s record for the youngest winner ever in that category.
