After a weekend of crisis talks TV hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield returned to our screens on Monday (15 May) for a very awkward reunion. The presenters have had a falling out and been feuding for weeks.

But even after the crisis talks, the situation has reportedly not improved at all. Reports claim ITV figures have dropped by 170,000 viewers in the past week.

The pair have been close friends since they co-hosted the first series of Dancing on Ice back in 2006. They got on so well that Phillip pushed for Holly to take over as presenter for This Morning when Fern Britton left in 2009. The duo even spent summer holidays together with their families.

What happened between former BFF’s Holly and Phil?

The feuding has been going on for weeks after a source told The Sun that the hosts had been “putting on smiles” for the cameras and the fall out had been “brewing quietly for some time.”

After these claims were made, Phillip released a statement that reportedly left Holly - who hasn’t spoken publicly about the fallout - blindsided. Phil said “As I have said before, Holly is my rock. We’re the best of friends — as always, she is an incredible support on screen, behind the scenes and on the phone.”

We have seen the pair’s relationship diminish since the backlash over ‘Queue-gate” and more recently the shocking news of Phillip’s brother being convicted of sexual offences.

After speaking to a body language expert she explained that there was a lot of tension between the duo as they presented the show. But it was clear to everyone watching that they definitely weren’t friends.

What does this mean for the future of the show?

Many people are speculating that Holly and Phil will be lucky if they last till the end of the week. This would be a shame as they have co-hosted the daytime show for over 14 years, it would be the end of an era.

And who would replace them? Alison Hammond would be the most obvious choice. The BAFTA Award winning presenter has featured on This Morning for over 20 years. She started on the show presenting the competitions going on to interview Hollywood A-Listers to now presenting the show every Friday alongside Dermott O’Leary.

Everyone loves Alison’s positive energy and bubbly personality which is what we need in the mornings.

During Phil’s absence from the show Alison stepped in to co-host with Holly and fans have since demanded she replaces Phil permanently.

Holly and Alison have great chemistry and the nation loves them both so it could be time for a new presenting duo to take over the reins.
