The ‘will he or won’t he quit This Morning' has been rumbling on all week after the news has just been announced that Phillip Schofield is leaving This Morning with immediate effect. In a statement on his Instagram, he said the following: “I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning has become the story.” He goes on to say that “I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me-especially This Morning’s amazing viewers- and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month.”

As the BBC report, “Schofield has been a regular presenter on This Morning since 2002, and Willoughby since 2009. The pair also present ITV’s Dancing On Ice together.” Although it will be interesting to see if Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby continue co-presenting Dancing On Ice together, the question moves to who will replace Phillip Schofield on This Morning?

Three days ago PeopleWorld asked on Twitter who the viewers on This Morning would like to replace Phillip Schofield if he left This Morning. Rylan Clark received 40% of the votes, followed by Alison Hammond with 25% and then Dermot O’Leary. According to reports, Holly Willoughby is keen for Alison Hammond to join her on This Morning. The Daily Mail reports that Holly “ has become very close to Alison, staunchly supporting her through her recent blackmail ordeal when a former male friend threatened to release lies about her unless she paid him off. Soon after, Ms Willoughby took Ms Hammond out with her famous girl gang, which includes Spice Girl Emma Bunton and former All Saints singer Nicole Appleton.”

It will be interesting to see when ITV announce Phillip Schofield’s replacement for This Morning and whether it will be Holly’s reportedly ‘close friend', Alison Hammond.
