This Morning: A closer look at Phillip Schofield's marriage to Stephanie Lowe

Phillip Schofield's love life has been all over the headlines over recent weeks. The former This Morning presenter left the show after 21 years and has admitted an affair with a younger male colleague. 

Phillip was married to Stephanie Lowe for 27 years before separating in 2020 when he came out as gay. The ex-presenter has since apologised to his loyal wife who has supported him over the years after admitting having an affair whilst he was still married.

In 2020, Phillip sat down with Holly Willoughby live on This Morning to reveal he was gay. He has been separated from Stephanie but the couple have not yet filed to divorce. Soon after Phillip shortly moved out of their marital home in Oxfordshire and into a London apartment. 

How did the couple meet? 

Phillip met Stephanie when he was 25 and they were both working at the BBC; he was working for Children's BBC and she was a production assistant at the time. 

A few years after dating Phillip proposed to Stephanie. According to Hello, Phil told his former co-host Holly how he put an engagement ring in an ‘advent calendar’ to propose to Stephanie. 

He explained "you could put your own thing into the little boxes. I put in some bath salts and cheap things just for every day”

“Then on the given day I’d chosen I put the engagement ring in and when she opened it I hopped out of bed starkers and got down on one knee."

When did they get married and how many children do they have? 

The couple married in March 1993 at Scotland's Ackergill Tower. Not long after, the happy couple welcomed eldest daughter Molly Lowe and three years later youngest daughter Ruby Lowe. The girls took on their mothers maiden name Lowe as their surname.

In 2018 Phil shared a post on his social media to celebrate his 18th wedding anniversary with Steph.  

Although the couple have been separated now for three years they have stayed close friends and have been spotted on many occasions both wearing their wedding rings. 

Speaking to Chris Evans on his ‘How to Wow’ podcast Phil was asked by the host how long he plans on wearing his wedding ring Phil replied “That is a very good question, Chris. I don't know. Because I am still married to Steph."

Did they work on TV together? 

The couple made their television debut on the ‘Schofield's South African Adventure’ in 2017. The documentary followed their trip to South Africa enjoying a safari and taking in the local culture. 

It has since been reported that the show was broadcast a year after his young lover started working for This Morning. 

Stephanie and Phil also featured on the ITV program ‘How To Spend Well At Christmas’. This showed Phil and Steph trying out some of the best wine, food, gadgets  and other Christmas gifts in their Oxfordshire home. 

Stephanie has also spoken on the Lorraine show with Lorraine Kelly. She was also a regular attendee to the red carpet events with her husband including the National Television Awards.

What did Stephanie Lowe say about Phillip Schofield coming out as gay?  

When Phillip came out as gay, Stephanie told The Sun “I love Phillip, as much today as I ever have, and always will.”

"We’ve been awestruck by the strength and love of our precious girls, even as they’ve been trying to make sense of it all for themselves. Our family has also been so supportive and will help us going forward. 

"Although this is difficult for us all, I support Phillip in taking this brave step. I will still be there, holding his hand. Everyone should be proud to live their own truth."

Phillip shared his appreciation for his wife's support at the time in an Instagram post that read “Steph has been incredible - I love her so very much. She is the kindest soul I have ever met."
