Piers Morgan’s relationship with Prince Harry and Prince William as he talks royals on Amol Rajan interview

Piers Morgan has often commented on the ‘Fab Four’ and circled back to criticising the Duke of Sussex last night on BBC

I am sure there are many people who have a lot of questions for Piers Morgan considering his controversial tenure at the front of journalism on Good Morning Britain, TalkTV and his stint as News of the World Editor; BBC’s Amol Rajan being one of them.

Amol sat down with Piers on the BBC last night, at one point even grabbing a beer with the 58-year-old, and grilled him with some hard-hitting questions such as ‘when was the last time you were kind, or is that too damaging for the brand?’ or whether Morgan’s public criticism of Meghan was deep-rooted in misogyny.

However, it must be noted that Piers has been a part of the interviewing game for far too long to give too many damaging answers away (despite his recent statements that ended up with him walking from GMB) so managed to swerve some attacks and turn the conversation back around.

In answer to Amol’s question surrounding Morgan’s dislike for the Duchess of Sussex in light of him naming her a ‘lost cause’, ‘manipulative’ and a ‘California mudslinger’ to name a few, the journalist quipped that he was just as critical of her husband, Prince Harry.

For example, Piers has branded Harry a ‘traitor’ since his move away from the royal family when he stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and most recently called him ‘bitter’ and a ‘surly spoiled brat’ in relation to King Charles’ coronation where he promptly left after the ceremony to fly back to Montecito for Archie’s fourth birthday.

Amol’s interview was no different from previous jibes made about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as Morgan managed to dodge further questions about the alleged phone hacking scandal currently being debated in the high court against Prince Harry and ended up throwing more shade at the ‘Spare’.

While Prince Harry has had a turbulent relationship with the British press as seen in his tell-all memoir Spare, the connection between Prince Harry and Piers Morgan has definitely dominated the headlines, especially in recent months.

In April, Prince Harry claimed that when Piers Morgan was the editor of the News of the World, he ‘knew about, encouraged and concealed’ the illegal targeting of his late mother Princess Diana, including phone calls and messages being obtained between January 1994 and August 1995.

Not only has Piers faced allegations of phone hacking during his time at NoW but also when he was editor of The Mirror from 1995 and 2004. A separate court case against The Mirror has also been brought forward by Prince Harry.

While it is fair to say that Prince Harry and Piers Morgan’s relationship is a tricky one, what of Morgan’s connection to Prince William?

As mentioned, Piers believed Harry was a ‘spoiled brat’ regarding the King’s coronation on 6 May but was then quick to praise Prince William for his ‘dignified silence’ considering it was the first time the brothers had seen each other since Spare was published.

Piers wrote a large column earlier this week for his Piers Morgan Uncensored panel commending the Heir after he was ‘reliably told’ that “William has felt so incensed by Harry’s treachery, he didn’t trust himself not to physically remonstrate with him when they next found themselves in close proximity.”

Therefore, one could believe that Piers Morgan truly has picked a side despite the unwritten rule that journalists are to remain impartial, and has a Marmite relationship with the Heir and the Spare respectively.

I think that as we have seen a journalist interviewing a journalist in the form of Piers and Amol, the next logical step would be for a royal to interview a royal - any takers Prince Harry or Prince William?
