Oprah Winfrey spoke with her good friend Gayle King this week on CBS Mornings to discuss her 100th selection for her book club, Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano. Whilst she was being interviewed, Oprah was asked her thoughts on whether Meghan Markle and Prince Harry should attend King Charles’s coronation.

Although Oprah was not on the programme to discuss Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, it was no surprise that she was asked for her thoughts on the couple as she was responsible for the bombshell interview with them in 2021. Oprah’s response was as follows: “I think they should do what they feel is best for them and their family,” she said.

Oprah then went on to say: “That’s what I think. That’s what the bottom line comes down to. What do you feel is the right thing for you?” Although Oprah was asked for her opinion on Meghan and Harry regarding the coronation, according to The Independent, “she acknowledged she hadn’t specifically spoken to the couple about the coronation as they haven’t “asked” her for her “opinion” on if they should attend it or not.”

There was speculation in the press recently that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were snubbed from Oprah’s birthday party.

However, this story proved to be inaccurate as stars had not gathered for Oprah’s birthday, but for the 25th anniversary party of the beauty brand Anastasia Beverly Hills.

Where the confusion had come from was that the beauty party fell on the same weekend as Oprah’s birthday.

Stars who were in attendance at the Anastasia Beverly Hills party included Kim Kardashian, JLo, and Sofia Vergara. JLo even shared a photograph of her, Kim Kardashian and Oprah at the event.

Although Oprah has previously spoken about only having three close friends, Gayle King, Maria Shriver and Bob Greene, she did of course attend Meghan and Harry’s wedding.

She may no longer be their Montecito neighbour as she reportedly sold her mansion to Jennifer Aniston in 2021 for $14.8 million, but she obviously feels that she is ‘close’ enough to the couple to share her advice.

It will be interesting to see in the coming weeks and days whether Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will take Oprah’s words that they should ‘do what is best for them and their family’ as an indication that they should perhaps not attend.

Or perhaps she meant that they should accept the invitation? Only time will tell….
