Taylor Swift Era Tour public tickets sale cancelled on Ticketmaster due to high demand

Taylor Swift fans are branding Ticketmaster ‘unfair’ and ‘a joke’ as the official ticket company cancels the public sale of tickets for The Era Tour due to high demand.

The sheer number of pre-sales which generated nearly $300-$400 million alone, has left not only an insufficient number of tickets for public sale buyers on the 18 November, but also left some pre-sale buyers empty-handed.

Two million tickets were sold during presale on 17 November for the singer’s upcoming US tour before the website crashed as a result of traffic.

Taylor Swift’s Era Tour features songs from her four recent albums Lover, Folklore, Evermore and Midnights.

While Taylor Swift has broken another record with her tour becoming the highest-grossing North American tour ever, surpassing that of her Reputation tour, Ticketmaster has faced huge backlash for not supporting fans and for avoiding blame for the crash.

Ticketmaster announced the cancellation as they tweeted: “Due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand, tomorrow’s public on sale for Taylor Swift The Eras Tour has been cancelled.”

A spokesperson from the website explained that the traffic for The Eras Tour presale was 4x their previous peak, with 3.5 million people registering and multiple bot attacks adding to the carnage.

In response, a fan called ‘Catie did not get Taylor tickets’ said: “Would you guys care to comment on how hundreds of fans with presales and boosts were unable to get tickets, but hundreds of scalpers were able to get multiple tickets through VERIFIED fan presale and are now reselling them for thousands of dollars?”

As another concurred: “How can you sell out of all the tickets in presale when only 15% are supposed to be released?”

Other Swifties continued to question Ticketmaster’s approach to pre-sale tickets with some users waiting six hours for verification to be let down while others were charged but did not receive tickets.

The hashtag #Ticketmasterisoverparty started making its rounds as ‘scalpers’ started selling Taylor Swift tickets from $11,000 - $50,000.

Tickets for the US concerts were supposed to be on sale from 18 November, with European dates soon to be released for Taylor Swift’s Era Tour.
