Spotify Unwrapped 2022: the most popular artists and songs this year

Taylor Swift is certainly hotter than hot at the moment. She has just been revealed as the UK’s most listened to artist on Spotify of 2022, which is some achievement.

This achievement is particularly impressive considering Taylor’s Midnights was only released in October, which sped up her streams to 805m in the UK.

After sharing snippets of lyrics from Midnights on billboards in London and New York City, Spotify and Taylor Swift also added more prominent teasers in Sao Paulo, Brazil and Nashville.

In Nashville, the text read, “Did you even have someone kiss you in a crowded room?” In São Paulo, the line featured was, “just like clockwork, the dominoes cascaded in a line.”

Joining Taylor Swift in the top 10 artists listened to in the UK are five British performers: Ed Sheeran, Harry Dave, Arctic Monkeys and D-Block Europe.

The artists who came after Taylor Swift in the top artists listened to UK fans are Drake, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Kanye West, The Weekend, Dave, Eminem, Arctic Monkeys and in 10th spot, D-Block Europe.

Another music star (newly single) Harry Styles is also celebrating Spotify success. His single As It Was is the most listened song of the year, reaching nearly 97m streams throughout 2022 in the UK.

The other artists featured in the top five are Glass Animals’ Heat Waves, Dave’s Starlight, Kate Bush’s Running Up That Hill and Seventeen Going Under by Sam Fender.

As if claiming the prize for the most listened song of the year on Spotify wasn’t enough, Harry’s album Harry’s House is also the top album on the streaming service.

Following behind Harry is Ed Sheeran’s equals, and then Lin Manuel-Miranda’s Encanto, Olivia Rodrigo’s SOUR and Taylor’s Midnights.

When it comes to global artists, Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny took top spot for the most-streamed artist globally, with more than 18 billion streams this year. This is the third year in a row that the rapper has achieved the top spot. An incredible achievement.
