Add rock musician Sully Erna to your dating history explainers everyone; the lead singer of ‘00s metal group Godsmack, perhaps best known for their single “I Stand Alone” from The Scorpion King soundtrack, has confirmed that he had a brief, albeit memorable relationship with Lady Gaga during an interview with Revolver magazine

The revelation comes after another member of Godsmack, drummer Shannon Larkin mentioned during a podcast that frontman Sully Erna once dated Lady Gaga, surprising many fans with the news. The hearsay was confirmed however by Erna, 55, in which he spoke fondly about the brief time the pair dated.

“I really don’t have a lot to say on this topic,” Erna responded when asked about the rumour. “What I will tell you is that I have an immense amount of respect for her. I was introduced to her through a mutual friend. We clicked and dated for a hot minute, and there was nothing but respect for each other.”

“There may be a lot of people in the world that think she’s kooky and crazy because she’s so wild with fashion and things like that, but she knows exactly what she’s doing. She’s an extremely smart businesswoman. And she’s kind and super talented.”

The relationship seems like it was more recent than anticipated too, with Erna mentioning while he was seeing Lady Gaga he met Sir Elton John personally. Lady Gaga first worked with Sir Elton John from 2010, and became godmother to his son Zacahary in 2011.

As it turns out, Lady Gaga might have also had a profound influence on Erna's songwriting, with the Godsmack single “Under Your Scars,” apparently inspired by Erna’s relationship with Gaga, prompting the initial question from the Revolver journalist.
