You know when you write a revenge song as your ex-partner and father of your children has left you for a much younger woman causing distress and pain on a scale that can't even be private due to your global profile?
No, me neither. However, this is the reality singing legend Shakira is facing at the moment. And, the song she wrote to ensure her devastation could be an empowering moment for her has been belittled once more by the engañar al hombre (Spanish for 'cheating man') Gerard Piqué.

In case you've not been reading the headlines, Piqué (35), former Manchester United and Barcelona defender, has moved on quickly with a much younger new woman, Clara Chia Marti (23) following a 12-year relationship with the Waka Waka singer. Shakira is 10 years older than her former beau.
In her recently released song, BZRP Music Sessions Vol 53, Shakira sings, "I'm worth two 22's. You traded a Ferrari for a Twingo. You traded a Rolex for a Casio... A lot of gyms, but work your brain a little bit too."
And now Piqué has taken those lyrics and really run with them. Rather than feeling embarrassed or regretful of the end of his 12-year relationship, and specifically the way in which he appears to have allowed Clara to visit his marital home before he split with Shakira, instead he is reinforcing her song lyrics.

Hide AdPiqué has responded to those lyrics by persuading Casio to become sponsors of the Kings League. He also turned up to a Kings League event in a Twingo car. A video of his arrival in the Twingo gained more than 60,000 likes on Twitter within an hour. Who is liking that tweet? People who don't understand the behaviour of Piqué, or - more worryingly - endorse his attitude.
It's a joke, I understand, and it is horribly funny. The laddish culture permeating through football will wholeheartedly endorse and congratulate a man who turns a serious life event into a joke. How clever of Piqué, they'll think. How wonderful for Casio and Twingo. They've managed to subvert a terrible PR situation into profit.
Headlines in newspapers have said 'Gerard Piqué has last laugh' but I beg to differ. Shakira is the only one in this situation who will have the last laugh. She's escaped a man who was unable to offer her support during a difficult time with tax fraud charges and she's free of someone who disregards her for a much younger, seemingly more naïve woman, Clara.
