While the catchy tune, the fun and upbeat music video and hidden digs at ex-Liam Hemsworth may be behind Miley’s resurgence, it could also be the inspiring lyrics that have people coming back for more.

The Disney Channel alum released the single on 13 January, notably the same date as Hemsworth’s birthday, and it has since been described as an anthem about self-love and women empowerment.

With lyrics such as ‘I can hold my own hand’, ‘I can love myself better than you can,’ and distinctly, ‘I can buy myself flowers’, Miley Cyrus is inspiring millions that you don’t need a significant other to feel loved and be loved.

The Wrecking Ball singer confirmed that this was her goal for the anthem, when she shared the news of Flowers reaching the top spot on Twitter, saying: “Thankful that Flowers is Number 1 around the world. This song is dedicated to my fans & the steadfast self love I wish for each of you. Forever grateful, Miley.”

Flowers came just in time as Valentine’s Day fast approaches, as fans have been sharing their love for the tune on TikTok, with one user gaining over three million views for her comparison of being in a relationship to being single.

The video in question bounced back and forth between Miley’s song ‘Flowers’ and the uncanny resemblance with Bruno Mars’ song ‘When I Was Your Man’ - which played at Miley and Liam’s wedding.

This is exemplified by when Bruno says, ‘I should have bought you flowers’, Miley responds ‘I can buy myself flowers’.

The TikTok user also penned her own hilarious captions to emphasise Miley’s self-love anthem such as ‘Being single on Valentine’s Day’ changing to ‘at least I am not getting cheated on’ to name but one.

Comments on the TikTok concurred with her appreciation of Miley’s lyrics including, ‘me every single year (emphasis on the single),’ ‘she really released this at the right time’ and ‘pop off girl, we can party by ourselves.’

In light of these responses, Miley’s ambition to restore self-love with her song is blossoming.
