30 tracks, including nine original songs and 21 covers from the world of hard rock; when Dolly Parton said that she was going to release a rock album, in true Dolly Parton fashion she did not mess around. ‘Rockstar’ is set to release on November 17 2023 through all leading digital outlets and physical formats, and the collaborators Dolly has roped into her first rock album should cast no doubt the love musicians have for the philanthropic country and western star.

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, Lizzo, Sting, Chris Stapleton, Debbie Harry, Elton John, John Fogerty, Joan Jett, Steven Tyler, Peter Frampton and Kid Rock (in a break from shooting at beer boxes with limited success) are all confirmed as guest artists on the album, which features Parton covering the likes of The Rolling Stones, 4 Non Blondes and even a solo cover of Prince’s classic “Purple Rain.”

We don’t even have to wait until November to get a taste of what’s to come either; Parton will be present at the 58th annual Academy of Country Music Awards tomorrow (May 11th) to present the ceremony with another legend of the Country music scene, Garth Brooks. It is at the event that Dolly will release her first single from her album - and personally speaking, I hope “Freebird” is the first single from the album, though admittedly it is a rather long song from American idols Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Though originally Mick Jagger was rumoured to appear on the album, Parton confirmed a month ago that things didn't pan out due to timing issues; however, the Rolling Stones cover on 'Rockstar' will see Parton ably assisted by both P!nk and Brandi Carlisle.

“I’m so excited to finally present my first rock n’ roll album, Rockstar!” Parton said via a statement. “I am very honoured and privileged to have worked with some of the greatest iconic singers and musicians of all time, and to be able to sing all the iconic songs throughout the album was a joy beyond measure. I hope everybody enjoys the album as much as I’ve enjoyed putting it together!”

‘Rockstar’ will be available as a four-LP set, a two-CD set and via digital download and on all streaming services.
