Once described as ‘naff’ and ‘tacky’ by the fashion elite Victoria Beckham has certainly fought her way to the top. It’s been 15 years since she launched her own clothing label and it is only now that the fashion line has started to make a profit. Many people would've given up after 5 or 10 years but thanks to the help of husband David Beckham pumping money into her dream (a reported £30 million) she is now able to show all the naysayers she is a force to be reckoned with.

Speaking to fashion bible WWD (Women’s Wear Daily) the brands investor David Belhassen said: revenues are up by a huge 42 per cent to £58 million — and predicts that when the business files accounts for the 2022 financial year this coming December.” This will be great news for Victoria after seeing losses year after year. We take a look back at Victoria’s rise from popstar to fashion designer.

After the Spice Girls split and giving it her best shot at a solo career Posh spice decided to take a different career route, Fashion! Not an obvious choice for the former singer as she was well known for ‘WAG Era’ - Wives and girlfriends - of the England football team during the World Cup 2006. Supporting husband David from the side-lines Victoria was often spotted wearing vest tops, short shorts, signature oversized sunglasses and long hair extensions. Not exactly the most sophisticated look.

It was this ‘WAG’ style that made the fashion world describe her as ‘tacky’. According to the Daily Mail, designer Tom Ford allegedly called his PR and demanded: “Get that woman out of my clothes!” to which the PR famously replied: “that woman was actually buying them”. Even the late Alexander McQueen was said to dislike the singer turned fashion ‘wannabe’. After leaving her ‘WAG style’ well and truly behind - including the extensions - Victoria is often pictured looking the part of fashion icon as she wears chic tailored outfits that compliment her style.

So it came as a shock to everyone when the fashion designer Marc Jacobs took her under his wing and not only invited her to the front row of his 2007 fashion show but featured her as the new face of his 2008 campaign as she was photographed coming out of large Marc Jacobs bags.

Victoria launched her own label ‘Victoria Beckham’ - ready to wear luxury fashion. The line saw figures hugging structured dresses, capes and gowns. Despite the fashion snobs turning their nose up at the singer's fashion line the label received rave reviews. Victoria has continued distancing herself away from the girl band label and proving herself as a reputable  fashion designer.

Fast forward a few years and the fashion industry started to warm to the idea that Victoria knew what she was doing. Many big names such as Anna Wintour and the late Karl Lagerfeld were happy to praise the former Spice girl for her fashion shows. In 2011 Victoria was recognised after winning best brand at the British Fashion Awards.

Despite the brand facing financial difficulties over the years the label has succeeded but it’s not the clothes that have saved her brand but her accessories and beauty range that have pulled it from the brink. The ‘Watch chain bag’ was a huge success after selling out in multiple sizes and colours there is now a waiting list for the handbag priced from £850. And the affordable Satin Kajal Eyeliner, £30 is one of the VB Beauty ranges best sellers.

From a joke in the fashion industry to becoming one of the biggest players. The Victoria Beckham brand isn’t going anywhere and looks as though now the tide has turned and the business is making profit, we are sure that posh Spice will continue in her succession.
