Cat Crazy: The most ridiculous outfits at Met Gala 2023 as Jared Leto arrives in full feline costume
People in this article
When the Met Gala 2023 theme was announced as outfits to honour fashion legend Karl Lagerfeld, we probably expected cats to feature given the former Chanel creative director's well-known fondness of his cat - Choupette.
After all, Lagerfeld left some of his $200m wealth to his cat when he died! But some outfits on the red carpet at this year's Met Gala arguably took that theme a little too literally.

Hide AdWe've seen a number of cat outfits at this year's event - and a couple of other outfits that rightly make up our list of most ridiculous looks. From Lil Nas X to Jared Leto, many celebrities seemed to take things a little too far at the 2023 Met Gala.
The year's biggest fashion event in New York brought a few surprises as PeopleWorld does its best to sum up the night's most outrageous looks.
Jared Leto
Well, of course Jared Leto arrived at the Met Gala dressed up as Karl Lagerfeld's cat Chouppette. Because why wouldn't he?!
The actor and musician left people guessing who was under the costume before removing what looked like a headpiece that would weigh anyone not fit to walk a runway to the ground.

Doja Cat
Living up to her name, Doja Cat dressed as a cat including what appeared to be make-up that added feline features to her face.
Her outfit included a glittering gown complete with a cat headpiece.
Much less ridiculous than Jared Leto, but still worthy of our outrageous list.
Lil Nas X

Hide AdRapper Lil Nas X, certainly turned heads at the Met Gala red carpet. But it's firmly up for debate whether or not it was in praise or disbelief.
The 24-year-old left little to the imagination in his crystallized cat look by Pat McGrath and Dior Men.
In an almost nude look, Lil Nas X is a shoo-in for this list.
Janelle Monáe
Janelle Monáe simply missed the mark (in my opinion) with her rather odd overcoat look at the Met Gala. She then removed the coat to show off her revealing see-through dress which did little to improve her overall showing at this year's event.
Perhaps we can expect better from Janelle at future red carpets.
