A BBC star has confirmed she is taking time off after fans noticed she was recently sounding “ropey”.

Concerns had been raised by viewers about BBC Breakfast’s tenured weather forecaster Carol Kirkwood - and in the past few days she has been absent from our screens. The 61-year-old has this week been replaced by co-presenter Matt Taylor.

Posting on X, one viewer recently wrote, “someone please give Carol a throat sweet, she sounds terrible,” while Kirkwood herself admitted she sounded “ropey”. But now, she is taking some well-earned time away from work.

Also taking to the social media platform, Kirkwood uploaded a picture of herself at the beach and said: “Just visited Tresco (Isles of Scilly). To call it stunning doesn’t do it justice. Weather beautiful. Fell in love with the red squirrels.”

One follower replied: “Oh my! It looks stunning and is instantly on my 'to do' list, especially with the red squirrels.”
